Obituary: Geneva Hannah Earwood, 89 of Kannapolis was freed from her earthly body and the grip of dementia, on Saturday, March 22, 2014. She was sustained during the days and weeks before her release by the loving care and support given to her by her family, and the staff of Magnolia Gardens, Spencer, N.C. She was very determined as she struggled with the loss of everyday activities due to memory loss, such as cooking, driving, yard work, personal care and other everyday tasks. She was born on November 30, 1924 in Gaston County, the only daughter of the late Charles A. and Ollie L. Green Hannah. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ira S. Earwood who died January, 2006, a son Barry Earwood, a grandson, Michael Sexton, and 5 brothers. As a young wife and mother, Geneva worked for Cannon Mills, and later retired from Northeast Medical Center, formerly known as Cabarrus Memorial Hospital, as a nursing assistant. Funeral services celebrating Geneva's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel with Rev. Roger Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in the Masonic Section at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 from 6-8:00 PM.
