Obituary: Geneva Pittman Rivers, 85, of Kannapolis departed this earth for her Heavenly home on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from CMC-Main while surrounded by her family. Her death was unexpected. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 17 at Whitley's Funeral home with Rev. Mike Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 16, at other times they will be at the family residence. Geneva was born January 12, 1932 in Ruby SC, a daughter of the late Sidney and Babe Demby Pittman. She was a life-long member of the Church of the Nazarene and worked for many years at Cannon Mills Co. as a cutter. Geneva was an avid sports fan, following A.L. Brown Football, Carolina Tar Heels Basketball, the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Braves. She also enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking for family and friends. Geneva was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Wilson Rivers, 2 brothers; Franklin Pittman, Sr. and Cleve Pittman and 2 sisters; Ruth P. Jenkins and Betty P. Cox. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters; Linda R. Strickland of Kannapolis, Phyllis R. Lopez (Fernando) of Mooresville and Jennifer R. Gaskey (Kevin) of Kannapolis, her granddaughters; Sabrina Lopez-Jaramillo (Julio) and Joshua Arquette (Taylor), her great-grandchildren; Austin, Kandace, Mikayla, Damion, Dominic, Julio Jr., Alison, Kelcie, Khloe, Trinity and her sister, Beulah Clanton of SC and her half-sisters; Margie Smith, Joyce Lord, Carolyn Seagraves and her half-brother, Roy Pittman, all of Kannapolis.
