Obituary: George Franklin Allmon, age 84, died Monday, December 14, 2009 at the Bob & Carolyn Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC after two years of declining health. He was born April 21, 1925 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Mack Allmon and Lela Faggart Allmon. He was employed with the former Cannon Mills Co.Plt.#4 Card Room for 44 years until his retirement. He was a member of Independence Square Freewill Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where he was active for 26 years & had served as a deacon. His special hobbies included gardening and raising birds. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bracewell Allmon who died in 1998; and a sister, Maxine Sellers. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, December 18, 2009 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Ronnie Cooper. The family will receive friends after the memorial service at the funeral home. Survivors include two daughters, Vickie Horton and Patti Allman, both of Kannapolis, NC; and two grandsons, Taylor Overcash of Kannapolis, NC and Allan Horton of New York, NY. The family has requested that memorials be made to Independence Square Freewill Baptist Church, 1615 Independence Square, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
