George Autry Butts

Obituary: George Autry Butts, 90, of China Grove, went to be with the Lord on March 8, 2015 at Liberty Lane, Hospice House, at the W.G. "Bill" Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury. Born on July 3, 1924 in Yell County, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Vernie Arthur and Hazel Rutledge Butts. Mr. Butts was educated in the Rowan County Schools and served his country in the US Army during WW2. He was a longtime member of Landis Baptist Church. He retired from management at Celanese in Salisbury. He was an avid fisherman. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Landis Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Ritchie Honeycutt and Dr. Gary Chapman. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. prior to the service. Interment will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at West Lawn Memorial Park. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Rowan County Honor Guard. At other times the family will be at the home of a grandson, Randal Butts of Salisbury. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 73 years, Helen Daughtery Butts of the home, son, Ronald Butts (Barbara) of Sparta, granddaughter, Vonda Butts Witherspoon (Tony) of Wilmington, grandson, Randal Butts (Beverly) of Salisbury, five great grandchildren, one great great- grandchild, two brothers, Bobby Butts (Betsy) of Lexington, Gene Butts (Shirley) of Boone, two sisters, Karolyn Butts Chapman (Dr. Gary) of Winston-Salem and Regina Butts Wright (Larry) of Salisbury. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Landis Baptist Church, 110 N. Kimmons Street, Landis, NC 28023.
