Obituary: George Franklin (G.F.) Coble, Jr., 87, of Kannapolis died suddenly Saturday, October 30, 2010. G.F. was a long time barber in Kannapolis and a professional musician and band leader with The Hi-Liters. He was also a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, 2nd Marine Division during World War II, serving from 1943 to early 1946 in Okinawa, Ryukyu Island, Saipan, Tinian and the occupation of Japan. GF was born April 30, 1923 in Roberta, NC to George Franklin Coble, Sr. and Emma Louise Blackwelder Coble. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Fred Andrew Coble; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Lynn Lentz. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Blackburn Coble; son, David Franklin Coble and wife, Pam, of Cary, NC; daughter, Bess Louise Coble, of Fort Myers, FL and grandchildren, Ashley Claire Coble of Atlanta, GA and Spencer Franklin Coble of Cary, NC. Survivors also include 3 sisters and a brother: Mary Ella Mitchell of Kannapolis, NC, Margie Eddy of Salisbury, NC, Bill J. Coble of Faith, NC, and Nancy Harper of Hickory, NC. His memorial will be at 3:00 pm, Sunday, November 14 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tommy Conder and Reverend Sarah Weaver officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 pm prior to the memorial service. At other times they will be at the family home.
