George William Linton, Jr

Obituary: George William "G.W." Linton, Jr., 72, of Kannapolis passed away on October 8, 2017 at the Tucker Hospice House. He was born July 28, 1945 in Chesterfield County, SC, a son of the late George W. Linton Sr. and Iona Mae Linton. He was preceded in death by a sister, Billie Amerson and two brothers, Tommy and Wayne Linton. George was retired from the US Army where he served from 1965-1988 serving in Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Germany and Honduras. He then worked at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College for 21 years. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. George was a very dedicated servant to his Lord, his family, his church, and his country. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Steve Beam and Rev. Larry Wood. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery in Salisbury at 1:00 PM with full military rites by the US Army. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Wednesday at Whitley's. He is survived by his wife, Tammy Delores Barnhardt Linton, 2 sons, George W. Linton III (Kym), Mark Anthony Linton (Natalie), 2 daughters, Beverly Carol Dayvault (Jamie), Natalie Nicole Kennerly, 10 grandchildren, brother, David Eugene Linton, 2 sisters, Helen Pittman and Charlotte Ann Schoefield.
