George Lewis Mars

Obituary: George Lewis Mars, age 81, died Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Transitional Health Services, Kannapolis, NC. He was born December 30, 1928 in Banks County, GA, the son of the late Rosalee Wilson Brakefield. George made his career in the U.S. Navy having served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict for a period of over 30 years. In addition to his mother he is preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Honeycutt Mars. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 12, 2010 at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Mike Hubbard. The Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard will perform military honors. The family will receive friends at the graveside service. Survivors include one son, Jerry Mars & wife, Gretchen of Mission Viejo, CA; one brother, Aubrey Brakefield & wife, Donna of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; two grandchildren, Megan and Baylor Mars; one niece, Kelly Brakefield Moore of Columbus, Ohio Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Visitation: The family will receive friends after the graveside service at Carolina Memorial Park.

Service: A Graveside Service will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, November 12, 2010 at Carolina Memorial Park.

Interment: Carolina Memorial Park.
