Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- George Tillman Tucker, age 82, died Tuesday, June 3, 2012 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC after an unexpected illness. He was born July 21, 1930 in Stanly County, NC, the son of the late Odea S. Tucker and Connie Pope Furr. He was raised by a step-father, George Furr. George served twenty-one years in the U.S. Air Force and had served two years previously in the U.S. Army. He had spent much of his military time in Korea and the Vietnam Conflicts. He later worked for the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant #1, Sheet Dept. as a fixer until his retirement. George play softball and he also loved hunting and fishing. He is also remembered playing in bowling tournaments. His family fondly thought of him as a loving, devoted father. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Winona Russell Tucker; a son, Richard E. Tucker. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 6:00 P.M. Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Billy O. Payne. Burial will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, July 9, 2012 at the National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC with military rites conducted by the U.S. Air Force. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include his children, George E. Tucker & wife, Judy of Kannapolis, NC, Donald L. Tucker & wife, Sharon of Salisbury, NC, Pamela T. Kilpatrick & husband, Hudson of Kannapolis, NC, and Mary T. Long of China Grove, NC; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Frances Hicks of Kannapolis, NC; and two special pets, Javy and Chloe.
