Georgia Bates Goodson

Obituary: Georgia Bates Goodson, 89, of Kannapolis died Friday, May 24, 2013 at Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House after a brief illness. Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, May 29 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marler Starnes and Rev. Tommy Wensil officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 12:00 to 1:30 PM on Wednesday at other times they will be at the family home. Georgia was born June 19, 1923 in Oglethorpe Co. GA, a daughter of the late Henry and Vonie Sailors Bates. She was a longtime area resident, employed by Cannon Mills Co. Plant #1 Shearing Dept. until retiring and was a member of Rogers Park Baptist. Georgia was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents, Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, James William Goodson in 1990 and also 6 brothers and sisters. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters; Peggy Goodson of Davidson and Becky G. Woodward (Herman) of Kannapolis and her son, Larry Goodson (Evon) of Kannapolis, her sisters Melba Andrews of Lenoir and Ida Mae Henderson of Kannapolis, her brother, Eugene Bates (Bonnice) of Gainesville GA. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
