Obituary: Jerry Wesley Garrett, age 68, died Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Bob & Carolyn Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC after a period of declining health. He was born April 2, 1942 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late John Edward Garrett and Ruth Ragan Garrett. In earlier years he served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963. He was also active as athletic director of the American Legion for many years. In later years he pastored his own church in Landis, NC, Faith Full Gospel Church for 6 years. Jerry also worked for Cannon Pharmacy, Kannapolis, NC. He was known by family and friends for loving sports all of his life. Many will remember his strong support for the A.L. Brown High School football program. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Garland Faw and Dawn Morgan. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:30 P.M. Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Karen Dial Garrett; two sons, Jerry Garrett and Mark Garrett; one daughter, Dorita Thompson; five grandchildren, Amber, Emerald, Keith, Harmony, and Dakota; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronald Garrett; and one sister, Cynthia Davis.
