Obituary: Georgia Jordan McLain, age 92, formerly of 609 N. Main St. died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis after a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, February 26 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Austin officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 25 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Georgia was born May 10, 1918 in Royston, GA a daughter of the late Joseph L. and Buna Mary Carey Jordan and moved to this area in 1936. She worked for Cannon Mills Co. in the Spinning Room and Wash Cloth Dept. until retiring in 1983 after 48 years of service. Georgia was a member of N. Kannapolis Baptist Church and attended West A Tabernacle Baptist Church. She was the last surviving of 9 siblings and was also preceded in death by her son, Charles Leonard Campbell and her husband, Elbert Owen (Mac) McLain, who died in 2008. Georgia was survived by her daughter, Blenda Campbell Jones (Andrew) and a grandson, Darryl Simpson, both of Kannapolis . She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
