Obituary: Geraldine Holshouser Layton, age 79, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC after a short illness of three months . She was born March 1, 1932 at home in Rowan County, NC, the daughter of the late Floyd Clifford Holshouser and Agnes Misenheimer Holshouser Brantley.Geraldine was a 1950 graduate of Concord High School. She was employed with Thurston Motor Lines in the accounting department for many years.Geraldine held her church membership at Solid Rock Worship Center, Kannapolis, NC where she was active in the "Jewels For Jesus" group.She is remembered for how she loved her family, the Lord, and her church family. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her step-father, Dr. T.H. Brantley. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Raymond Davis.Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC.The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her two daughters, Laura Reece & husband, Allen of Concord, NC and Linda Basinger & husband, Jim of Richfield, NC; two sons, Ronald Layton & wife, Sandra of Ringgold, GA and Michael Layton of Concord, NC; a daughter-in-law, Bessie Layton of Concord, NC; sister, Shirley Cline & husband Grady of Concord, NC; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Solid Rock Worship Center, 3000 Centergrove Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.

Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011 Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel.
