Obituary: Gertrude Scarboro Cromer, age 93, died Monday, October 11, 2010 at Autumn Care of Salisbury, Salisbury, NC after a period of declining health. She was born June 22, 1917 in Madison County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Noah Webester Scarboro and Lissie Jane Campbell Scarboro. Gertrude was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plt.#1 Sewing Room for over 30 years until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis, NC where she sang in the choir. Her family fondly remembers her love for gardening, fishing, and spending quality time with her family. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Stuart Cromer, who died in 1997; and three sisters. The funeral service will be 3:30 P.M. Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Debbie Madden. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at Whitley's Funeral Home prior to going to the church for the service. Survivors include one son, Roy A. Cromer & wife, Brenda of Richfield, NC; a daughter, Bonnie C. Beaver & husband, Doug of Concord, NC; Four grandchildren, Michael Cromer, Nikki Koontz, Matt Beaver, and Adam Beaver; one great-grandson, Jordan Koontz; One sister, Jane Cromer of Kannapolis, NC; and one brother, Pete Scarboro of Kannapolis, NC. The family would like to say a special thank you to all the employees of Autumn Care of Salisbury for their special care and kindness.
