Gilbert Cheek

Obituary: Gilbert J. Cheek, 88, of Kannapolis, NC died May 4, 2015 at Transitional Health Service. Gilbert was born on May 8, 1926 in West Jefferson, NC the son of the late Granville Cheek and the late Samantha Blevens Cheek. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Emma Sexton Cheek who died in 2010. Also, by a son and a daughter. Mr. Cheek was a Veteran of WW-II serving proudly with the U.S. Marines. After the war he worked for Cannon Mills Co. in the #5 spinning room retiring in 1988. Later he worked for West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. Survivors include his son, Jimmy Leonard (Terry) of Kannapolis; five grandchildren; Cynthia Bean, Jeffrey Leonard, Alisha Brantley, Justin Brantley and Megan Harris all of Kannapolis; and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 10-11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 7, 2015 with a burial at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove at a later date.
