Gilbert "Steve" Fisher, Sr.

Obituary: Gilbert "Steve" Fisher, Sr., 71, of Kannapolis, left here for his final long-haul on the journey to Heaven on January 1, 2014 from CMC-NE in Concord after a period of declining health. His funeral service will be held at noon on Friday, January 3 at Whitley's Funeral Chapel with Rev. Derald Adams and Rev. J George Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Church in Concord. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the funeral, at other times the family will be gathered at the family home. Steve was born February 27, 1942 in Cabarrus Co., a son of the late Archie E. and Daisy Tarleton Fisher, Sr. He was a life-long area resident and member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Concord. Steve was owner/operator of Steve Fisher and Son Trucking Company for 33 years, retiring in 2003. He loved trains, steam engines, trucks and NASCAR. Steve loved his family and looked forward to the monthly family "Get-Togethers". He will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents, Steve was also preceded in death by his brother, Lester V. Fisher II and his "Best Fur Babies" Stimey, Buckwheat and Spanky. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Cindy Walters Fisher of the home, his sons Steve Fisher, Jr. (Angie) of Salisbury and Eric Fisher (Andres) of Medellin, Colombia, his daughter, Lori F. Safrit (David) of Salisbury, their mother, Lynne Kizer Mauldin of China Grove, his daughters; April A. Young of Salisbury, Deborah Horne (James) of China Grove, Lisa Poole White (Mike) of Seneca, SC and sons, James Austin (Suzanne) of Claremont and Kenneth Poole (Alice) of Seneca, SC. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers, Archie E. Fisher, Jr.(Nancy) and Phil E. Fisher (Judy), and many nieces and nephews.
