Gladys Lucille Simmons Bolick

Obituary: Gladys Lucille Simmons Bolick, 86, of Kannapolis died at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury on August 14, 2012. Mrs. Bolick was born on March 23, 1926 in Lenoir, NC, the daughter of the late Com Rado Simmons and the late Emily Decker Simmons. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Luther V. Bolick who died in 2004; three brothers; and one sister. Mrs. Bolick was a loving, devoted wife, a very proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She worked at the former A & P and Table Supply grocery stores in earlier years as well as Cannon Mills Company. She was an amazing cook making sure everyone got what they wanted to eat. One of her greatest wants was to satisfy family with her biscuits. She was thought of as a "hands-on grandmother." Survivors include her daughters; Sherrie B. Jarvis (Steven) of Concord, NC and Dawn B. Johnson (Danny) of Franklinton, NC; a son, Danny Bolick (Priscilla) of Wake Forest, NC; Seven grandchildren, Suzanne Pengelly (Shane), David Bolick (Valerie), Nora Bolick, Erika Johnson, Justin Johnson, Sabrina Jarvis, and Sawyer Jarvis; six great-grandchildren, Carter, Evan, Gracyn, Drew, Brynn, and Baby Bolick; Two sisters, Vivian Mathews (Bill) of Virginia Beach, VA and Dean Cardwell (Charles) of Lenoir, NC; and a sister-in-law, Jan Simmons. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, August 17,2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC conducted by Rev. Neal Brower. Burial will take place at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or Jackson Park United Methodist Church, 715 Mable Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
