Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Gladys Rogers Cleveland, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at her home with her family by her bedside. She was born April 12, 1917 in Rowan County, NC, the daughter of the late George Rogers and Ellen McLain Rogers. Gladys was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, Sewing Room for many years until her retirement in 1974. She held her membership for over sixty years at Landis Baptist Church, Landis, NC where she was actively involved in the church in earlier years. Her family fondly remembers her love of cooking especially her cakes and pies and the way she cared for her family and friends. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Francis E. Cleveland; her son, Terry Watts; her adopted son, Chuck Kneece; and a number of brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Richie Honeycutt and Dr. Zachary Sizemore. Burial will follow at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery, Concord, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include her daughter, Kem Watts Smith (Thomas) of Kannapolis, NC; grandchildren, Terri Dawn Knapp (Brandon) of Aurora, CO; Mary Beth DeVos (Brandon) and Tammy Winecoff (David), both of Kannapolis, NC; Deanie Watts of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Brianna Frye, Ian Pfannes, Kristen Roseman (Josh); Billy Winecoff; and Kevin Trull; several loving, faithful friends; and her special Chihuahua dog, Tiny.
