Obituary: Gladys Mae Whitley Daniel, age 88, of Kannapolis died Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Tucker Hospice House after a period of declining health. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 22 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tom Snipes officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 12:00 to 2:00 PM Saturday, at other times the family will be at a daughter's home, Martha Brafford of Mt. Pleasant. Gladys was born April 21, 1928 in Cabarrus Co., a daughter of the late Carl Q. and Alma McDaniel Whitley. She was a life-long area resident and long-time employee of Cannon Mills, Plant #1 as a Hemmer in the Pillow Case Dept., retiring in 1993. Gladys was a charter member of Grace Covenant Church in Kannapolis where she was active in the Sunday school, the choir and other church ministries. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, gardening, camping and spending time with her family. Gladys was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Mauldin M. Daniel, her brother, Lewis Whitley and her sisters; Molly Hamby and Lula Bell Ledbetter. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters; Sharon D. Wilhelm and Rachel D. Goodman (Wayne) both of Kannapolis and Martha D. Brafford (Roger) and Cherry D. Utley (Jack) both of Mt. Pleasant, her 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and many other loving relatives.
