Obituary: Gladys Brown Hinson Born and reared on County Line Road in Rockwell, NC, she sometimes said she could throw a rock from her front yard all the way to Rowan County (the middle of the road). Gladys Brown Hinson, born December 27, 1928, died December 19, 2014. She was soon to be 86 years old. Mrs. Hinson was the daughter of the late C.A. Brown and Mamie M. Brown of Rockwell. She graduated from Rockwell High School and was a member of Bethpage United Methodist Church all of her adult life. Her devotion to the children's Sunday School classes is a testament of her love and compassion for the young and young at heart. Gladys loved and was loved by family and friends. Her quirky personality was always a subject of conversation. Anyone who met her always remembered her. She enjoyed years of crocheting and giving handmade items to friends, family and those in need. Gladys Brown Hinson was preceded in death by her brothers Joe and Norman, her sister Erma Brown Sides, and her husband of 62 years, Daniel Broadus Hinson. She retired after long careers with Sears & Roebuck and as office manager at Hinson Electrical Contractors of Kannapolis. Mrs. Hinson is survived by sons Donald K. Hinson and wife Bobbie Hinson of Charlotte and Steven L. Hinson and wife Lisa Hinson of China Grove. Gladys is also survived by her five grandchildren; Scott Hinson and wife Whitney Hinson of Charlotte, Erin Hinson Banker and husband Chris Banker of Belmont, Rachel Hinson of Kannapolis and Jacob and Gracie Hinson of China Grove; great-grandchildren; Noah and Mason Banker of Belmont and Emery, Avery, and Aubry Hinson of Charlotte. The funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Bethpage United Methodist Church of Kannapolis. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. An 11 a.m. burial in the church cemetery, with family and any who wish to attend, will precede the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Bethpage Memorial Fund. Arrangements are in the care of Whitley's Funeral Home of Kannapolis, NC.
