Gladys T. James

Obituary: - Gladys Talbert James, age 78, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at CMC-Mercy, Charlotte, NC after a short illness. She was born December 27, 1934 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Joseph W. Talbert and Latisha Long Talbert. She was a 1953 graduate of Winecoff High School. Gladys was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Swink Plant #16 for fifty years until her retirement. She had also worked part-time at Lake Lynn Lodge Restaurant, Concord, NC for twenty-five years and worked in the deli dept. at the Walmart in Kannapolis for seven years. She was member of the Baptist faith. Her family fondly remembers her love of cooking, enjoying time with her grandchildren, and was a loving mother who worried about everybody else but herself. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, SSgt. Wheeler James; grandson, Dustin L. Rayfield; seven sisters; and two brothers. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Frank Sossoman and Rev. Harry "Trooper" Ferguson. Burial will follow at Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church Cemetery, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, January 25, 2013 at the funeral home. The family will be at the residence the remainder of the time. Survivors include her children, Brenda J. Sherrill & husband, Mark of Concord, NC; Wanda M. James of Kannapolis, NC and Donna I. James, both of Kannapolis, NC; her grandchildren, Timothy J. Brignac (Kimberlee), Blair M. Clark (Jessie), Stefanie Brignac (Matt), Jessica Fegan, and Jacob A. Clark (Cassie); her great-grandchildren, Ryan Brignac, Aiden Barringer, Tori Barringer, Mason Brignac, Korbin Brignac, and Ethan J.
