Gladys Mae (Johnson) Morris

August 25, 1927 — December 15, 2021

Gladys Mae Johnson Morris, 94 of Gastonia, previously of China Grove, passed away on December 15, 2021.  She was born on August 25, 1927 in Greene County, North Carolina to the late Grover Cleveland and Minnie Leona Young Johnson.

Gladys early in her career was a switchboard operator for Southern Bell and later retired as a Medical Coordinator. She was a Pastor’s wife for 50 + years and loved her Lord.  She was a faithful member of the Kannapolis Church of God, which was built while her husband Rev. I.C. Morris, Jr pastored there.  She was a very talented artist and loved to garden.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Rev. I.C. Morris, Jr. and her grandson, Justin Paul Rushing. Gladys is survived by her daughters, Lorraine Rushing and her husband Troy and Jane Dawsey with special acknowledgment to Deanna Scronce, her son, V. Barclay Morris, her brother, Frank Johnson, her grandchildren, Jonathon M. Rushing and his wife Laury, Lauren Dawsey Smith and her husband Matt and Caylyn Dawsey Moore and her husband Ryan and her great grandchildren, Addison Jane Smith, Dawsey Coleman Smith, Jordan Taylor and Austin Taylor.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, December 19, 2021 from 2-3pm at Kannapolis Church of God, 2211 West “A” Street, Kannapolis with a Funeral Service to start at 3pm.  Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions can be made in Gladys’ memory to the Church of God Children’s Home, 3485 Orphanage Circle, Concord, NC 28027.
