Gladys Louise Payne Phillips

Obituary: Gladys Louise Payne Phillips, 98, formerly of Kannapolis, NC, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 21, 2010. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 24 at 2:00pm at Centerview Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC, at which she was a member since 1933.The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm at the church prior to the service. Gladys was born March 2, 1912 in Taylorsville, NC, the oldest child of Allie Thompson and John Chalmer Payne, and graduated from Hiddenite High School.She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Odell Phillips, her parents, and all seven siblings. She is survived by her only son, Gayle Bennett Phillips (wife Ronda), her grandchildren, Craig Phillips, Warren Phillips, and Sharon Phillips Hitchcock (husband Rick), her great-grandchildren Lindsey, Morgan, Matthew, Justin and Jessica Phillips, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to the charity of the donor's choice or to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC, 27262.Whitley's Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Interment: Carolina Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum.
