Obituary: Gladys S. Sipe Puntch, 98, passed away Friday morning, December 29, 2017 at CHS-Northeast Medical Center. Born April 4, 1919 in Baltimore, MD, she was a daughter of the late John C. and Flora Goodman Leonard, and the late John L. Sifford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Bert Sipe, her second husband John Ransom Puntch, brothers Melvin, Charles and Harvey Lee Leonard, and her step sister Mable Hendly. Gladys attended local schools, was an area resident most of her life and retired from Cannon Mills after 45 years of loyal service. An active and faithful member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church, she had served in various capacities, including preschool work in the Sunday school for 40 years and later with the adult Sunday school. She was a member of the Charming Years senior group, the Women's Missionary Union and was a leader in G.A.'s. She had been on the advisory committee of Helping Hands Thrift Store sponsored by the church and enjoyed working on special projects, especially the Christmas Blitz each year. Family members include her brother Lamont Leonard; step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; faithful nieces Martha Rusher (Floyd) and Yvonne Hinson and several much loved nieces and nephews, who were very dear to her. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 12:00-2:00 pm at Whitley's Funeral Home. Services to remember and celebrate Gladys' life will begin at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Chris O'Guin.
