Obituary: Gladys Garnell Canup Thompson, 89, of Kannapolis passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House. She was born February 12, 1924 in Cabarrus County, the daughter of the late William and Pearl Lefler Canup. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Haze Thompson. She retired in 1991 from Cannon Mills after 36 years . She was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church where she had been a member of the Good Times Senior Citizens Group, the Joyful Morning Circle and former choir member. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, June 28, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Kim Trabold. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Friday at Whitley's. She is survived by her son, James Edward Thompson of Kannapolis, her daughter, Deborah Thompson Edwards of China Grove, her brother, Jimmy Canup of Landis, granddaughter, Teresa Ann Lozano of Charlotte, two greatgrandchildren, Dylan Michael Lozano and Hayley Marie Lozano, 3 step-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to New Hope Lutheran Church % Building Fund,1615 Brantley Rd., Kannapolis, NC 28083 and /or Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
