Gloria “Jean” Goforth Ewing, 93, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024, at her home, with family by her side.
Born November 2, 1930, in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late William and Grace (Demarcus) Goforth. Jean married Earl “Bud” Ewing in August 1949 and together they raised three children, Dan, Mitch, and Judy.
Jean loved working with children and was most proud of her time as a teaching assistant at Beverly Hills School in Concord. She was very active with the children she taught. Jean was driven by faith. She was devoted to the Lord and enjoyed showing that in her Sunday School teaching. Jean had an imaginative mind. She was crafty; refurnishing furniture, weaving baskets, and putting together bulletin boards. Jean was a grand storyteller. She enjoyed gardening her flowers and spending time at the beach. Jean was a member in various Women’s Circles and the Red Hat Society. A loving mother, wife, sister and grandmother, Jean will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Judy Hartis; her son, Dan Ewing (Carol); her sisters, Elaine Scott, and Colleen Graham; her grandchildren, Emily Kindley (Mark), Laura Beth Barnhart (Kelly), Julia Chrismon (Glenn), Daniel Ewing, Shawn Ewing, and Nathan Ewing; her great- grandchildren, Macey and Callie Chrismon, Jacob Barnhart, Maddie Mayo (Zach) and Seth Kindley.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Earl “Bud” Ewing Sr., her parents, her son, Mitch Ewing; her son-in-law, Mike Hartis, and other relatives.
A Celebration of Jean’s Life will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024, with a time of gathering from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Whitley’s Funeral Home, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
