Obituary: Gordon Richard "Red" Ellis, age 77, of Kannapolis died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at CMC-NorthEast in Concord after a lengthy Illness. A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday June 19th at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Cooper officiating. A reception will follow immediately at Independence Square Freewill Baptist Church, Kannapolis. Gordon was born December 29, 1932 in Binghamton, NY to the Late Gordon Dever Ellis and the late Muriel Lucy Pratt Ellis. He was a veteran of the US Army. He worked for IBM in NY and then transferred to Charlotte in 1980 where he worked as a maintenance Technician. He later was owner and operator of his own concrete coring and drilling business in our region. "Red" as he was known, was a member of Independence Square Freewill Baptist Church where he loved to listen to their music. He liked to bowl, hunt, fish, camp and watch hockey. He loved his 4 little dogs. "Red" was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Ermond Ellis, his sister Della Mae Randall and his granddaughter, Nicole Hayes. He is survived by his 4 daughters; Debbi Poston (Andy) of Elmira NY, Pam Powell (Herb) of Greene NY, Tammy Hayes (Dale), Sydney Harrell (Mike); and by his son, Gerald Ellis (Lorie) all of St. Cloud FL. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, a sister, Ramona Kulik (Mike) of Binghamton NY, a number of nieces and nephews and his special friends, Connie and Deanie Stirewalt of Kannapolis.
