Gordon Harwood Nuckols

Obituary: Gordon Harwood Nuckols, age 84, died Monday, October 14, 2009 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born September 3, 1925 in Richmond, VA, the son of the late Buford J. Nuckols and Susan Irene Toler Nuckols. He had been a resident of Kannapolis since 1995 moving here from Charlotte, NC He was employed as a dispatcher with several trucking companies throughout the years including Carolina Freight, East Texas Motor Freight, and Arkansas Best Freight until his retirement due to disability. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II. He was also past-commander of the V.F.W. Post 10877 in Charlotte. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one sister, Marian Bellemy and a brother, Reginald Hansford. The memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Bethel Wesleyan Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Joe Harding. Burial will be at a later date at the National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Arlene Robson Nuckols; his daughter, Deborah Shoop of Pikeville, NC; his sister, Alice Adams & husband, Earl of Newport News, VA; his brother, C. Roland Nuckols & wife, Kim of Annandale, VA; his sister-in-law, Barbara Hansford of Newport News, VA; His three grandchildren, Benjamin Foster, Brian & Jessica Shoop, and Sarah & Jarrod Harden; three great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews; His brothers & sisters-in-law, Hank Robson & wife, Jean of Kannapolis, NC, Miss Jane Robson of Bellefonte, PA, Grace & Larry Wright of Union Dale, PA, Donna & Rev. Wayne Webb of Lavonia, GA, and Rev. Donald & Darla Robson of Holidaysburg, PA Memorials may be made to Bethel Wesleyan Church, 4036 Old Concord Salisbury Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
