Grady Richard Pope

Obituary: Grady Richard Pope, Sr., age 74, went to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Friday, October 9, 2015 at Carolinas Healthcare System-NorthEast, Concord, NC after a period of declining health. He was born August 1, 1941 in Rowan County, NC, the son of the late John Luther Pope and Vernie Isabelle Burgess Pope. In earlier years Grady was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, Pipe Fitting Dept. for many years. Later, he worked for Fluor-Daniels Construction, part of Celanese in Salisbury. He also was a member of Canaan Baptist Church, Salisbury, NC. He is also thought of as a prayer warrior for many missionaries. He devoted other time to fishing, spending quality time with his family, listening to Southern Gospel music, and praising the Lord. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Elizabeth Moss Pope whom he married on May 29, 1966; two brothers, Donald Pope and Bruce Pope; and a sister, Geraldine Lipe. There will be a celebration of life service held at 3:00 PM Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Canaan Baptist Church, Salisbury, NC officiated by Rev. Bruce Graham. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 PM Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the church prior to the service. Survivors include two sons, Grady Pope, Jr. & wife, Linda of China Grove, NC and Johnny Pope & wife, Lisa of Kannapolis, NC; two daughters, and Tierney Stirewalt of Concord, NC and Tallie Crowell & husband, Steve of Salisbury, NC; one brother, John Pope of Denton, NC; two sisters, Joyce Patterson and Jane Vannoy, both of Kannapolis, NC; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff on the 400 Hall of Liberty Commons for their love and care for Grady.
