Obituary: Grant Absher, 86, of 1011 Wentworth Dr. died Saturday May 29, 2010 at CMC-NorthEast in Concord after a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 1st at Shadybrook Baptist Church with Rev. Rickey Oxford officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Memorial Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Monday, May 31 at Whitley's Funeral Home, at other times they will be at the family home. Grant was born October 16, 1923 in Wilkes Co. NC, the son of the late Arthur and Mary Jane Miller Absher. A longtime area resident, Grant was a veteran of the US Air Force from WWII., a member of the Allen Graham Masonic Lodge and the Cabarrus Shrine Club. He was an active longtime member of Shadybrook Baptist Church serving with the deacons, as chief usher and on numerous committees. During various times of his life he worked for Cannon Mills Co. and Sparks Auto Sales. He later owned and operated Esso and Shell service stations and then City Motors in Kannapolis until he retired in 1994. In addition to his parents Grant was preceded in death by 4 brothers Alfred, Muncie, Troy and Ervin and by 4 sisters, Emma, Margie, Becky and Reba. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Minnie "Sue" Barbee Absher of the home, two daughters, Sharoyn Absher Burroughs (Roger) of Kannapolis, NC, and Neva Jane Absher Blair (David) of Stanfield, NC., six grandchildren; Roger Dale Burroughs Jr. (Kristin), Bradley Sheldon Burroughs, Jennifer B. Holsclaw, Lori Diane Burroughs, Joshua Blair (Nicole), and Benjamin Blair (Amanda); four great grandsons; Jackson and Justin Holsclaw, and Grant and Chase Burroughs; and two great granddaughters; Joleigh Hurst and Emma Jane Talbert. Two brothers, Howard Absher, and Arthur Absher Jr. of Kannapolis, NC., and a sister; Leanna Foster of Forest City, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: 6-8:00 P.M. Monday May 31st at Whitley's Funeral Home.

Service: 11:00 A.M. Tuesday June 1st at Shadybrook Baptist Church.

Interment: Carolina Mem. Park.
