Guy Richard Byrd

Guy Richard Byrd, 89, of Cleveland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Tucker Hospice House. He had been in declining health for two years.

He was born on February 11, 1935, to the late Charlie Wilson Byrd and Lillian Smith Byrd. In addition to his parents, Guy was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Dixon.

A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Byrd was raised in Kannapolis and retired from Hoechst Celanese after 29 years, recently, as an assistant production supervisor.

He was a devoted member of Broad Street Church of Christ, Statesville NC and will be sorely missed by all.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 27 years Carol Hoffman Byrd, four daughters, Deborah Susan Leitch, Cathy Diane Myers, Donna Gail Byrd (Donna White), and Cheryl Denise Gantt (Charles Gantt). A stepdaughter, Julie Beth Holt (David Duane Holt), 4 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home of Kannapolis. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00pm with Ken Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC.
