Obituary: Guy Willard Christy, 78, of Mooresville, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2011 at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. He was born on September 8, 1933, in Rowan County, a son of the late Nathan and Minnie Herman Christy. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by brothers, Ned and Harold Christy and a sister, Betty Jean Christy.Guy served proudly in the US Air Force until retiring in 1972 after 20 years of service. His military career spanned over the Korean war and the Vietnam war. Following his military career he had a 22 year career in textiles at Fieldcrest Cannon as a supervisor and retired from there in 1994. Mr. Christy was an avid golfer and a member of Kannapolis County Club and The Warrior Country Club and was fortunate to spend many days on the golf course with friends. He was a member of the Prostate Cancer Support Group and a member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church where he served on the finance committee and church council.Mr. Christy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alta Bost Christy, his sons, Daryl G. Christy and wife Stephanie of Albemarle, Jeff Christy and wife Mary Carl of Kernersville. The joys of his life include grandson Gage of Wilmington, granddaughter Bethany of Kannapolis and his "Buddy" grandson Jack of Kernersville. He is also survived by his sister Shelby Anderson of Kannapolis and his cherished family of sister and brother in laws, Thelma Bost, Hoke Karriker, Mildred Bost, Helen Craig, Floyd and Bonnie Bost, Frances and Don Hill, Hazel and Jim Freeze, Carolyn McLaughlin, Gene and Myra Bost, Jerry and Shirley Bost, and Tom and Donna Bost and many nieces and nephews. He often expressed his deep love for the Bost family. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 18, 2011, at 3:30 PM at St. Enoch Lutheran Church, with Rev. John Mark Beam officiating. The family will receive friends following the services in the church fellowship hall from 4:30 to 5:30 PM.In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to St. Enoch Lutheran Church for Unity Meals on Wheels program, 701 Campbell Ave., Kannapolis, NC 28081 Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com
