Guy L. Sloop

Obituary: China Grove, NC- Guy L. Sloop, age 77, passed away after a lengthy illness on Friday, April 12, 2013 at his home. He was born September 22, 1935 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Waldo J. Sloop and Bessie Morgan Sloop. Guy was one out of fourteen children in the Sloop family. Guy was a long-time employee with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, #6 Weave Room for forty years until his retirement. He was an active member of Living Water Church of God, Kannapolis, NC where he had served on a pastor's council member, visitation committee, senior adult leader, and active in various phases of church activities. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1958 to 1960. Guy was a dedicated family man. He was married to his wife, Geraldine York Sloop, for nearly fifty-five years. He loved to sing and at one time was involved in a family trio. He was a generous person that really loved helping people. Guy also found time to do handyman projects and gardening. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. The funeral service will be held at 5:00 P.M. Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Kannapolis Church of God, Kannapolis, NC officiated by his son, Dr. Greg Sloop, Rev. Brian McMasters, Rev. Sam Crisp, and Rev. Wade Easom. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2013 at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the church prior to the service. Survivors in addition to his wife include his son, Dr. Greg Sloop of Concord, NC and a daughter, Gina S. McMasters of Salisbury, NC; four brothers, Jacob Sloop of Rockwell, NC, Franklin Sloop of California, Tommy Sloop of Nashville, NC, and Jerry Sloop of Kannapolis, NC; five sisters, Louise Goodman, Thelma Honeycutt, Margaret York, and Linda Menius, all of Kannapolis, NC, and Helen McInnis of Spartanburg, SC; six grandchildren, Hannah Burgess & husband, Adam, Cloe McMasters, Meghan Killian & husband, Cody, Nathan McMasters, Matthew Sloop, and Jaron McMasters; and an honorary grandson, Manuel Benitez of China Grove, NC.
