Guynelle Smith Wright, 93, of Kannapolis, peacefully passed away Wednesday morning, December 28, 2022, at Compass Healthcare in Spencer, following a period of declining health.
Born September 1, 1929, in Madison County, GA, she was the daughter of the late James Hewitt Smith, Sr and Willie Mae Brooks Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Wright; her daughter, Valarie Dayle Wright; and 2 brothers.
Guynelle was a 1947 graduate of Cannon High School and had retired from Terry Products after many years of dedicated service. She was a loyal member of Jackson Park Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she taught children’s Sunday School class for over 50 years. Mrs. Wright loved gardening, tending to her flowers and enjoying God’s great outdoors. She loved her family, especially her grandkids, and she will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.
Family members include her son, Mark Wright (Jean), and their children, Brian Musselwhite, and Daniel and Allison Glasson; along with 8 great grandchildren; her granddaughter, Paula Beaver Linthicum (Albia) and their children, Victoria Stavrakas (Bill), Nick Fowler, Alexandria Corbett (Philip), Caroline McDaries and Brandon Linthicum (Rachel); her great-great grandchildren, Leevi Fowler, Jack and Emma Stavrakas, and Ellie Linthicum; and extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, January 2, 2023, at Whitley’s Funeral Home. Services to remember and celebrate Mrs. Wright’s life will begin at 11:00 am Tuesday, in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Reverend Dennis Craft. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
