H Wayne Fowler

H. Wayne Fowler, 80, of China Grove, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2023, at his home.

Born November 10, 1942, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late J.V. and Matilda Hilton Fowler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joel, Frank, Larry and William Fowler, and sisters, Doris Fowler and Faye Stewart.

Wayne was a 1961 graduate of AL Brown, where he played basketball.  He retired from Lance and was widely known as “The Lance Man” and had been awarded Salesman of the Year. He then worked for Cheerwine, where he was a route supervisor, later working for South Rowan High and Forest Park Elementary in custodial care. Mr. Fowler was a member of Homestead Baptist Church and a proud member of Cornerstone Quartet. He was past president of the Lions Club, loved gospel music, was a die- hard Duke fan, enjoyed golf, fishing, bowling, NASCAR and traveling by train with Joyce. Wayne was proud to have read his Bible all the way through in 2012.

Family members include his devoted wife of over 48 years, Joyce Ketner Fowler; his sons, Jeff Fowler (Deidre), Chris Fowler (Amanda) and Brian Eller (Jenny); grandchildren, Austin, Eli, Jeffrey and Kyle Fowler, Jakob Eller, Nathan McSwain, Emmy Pack and Amanda Eller; nieces, a nephew and extended family members.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 19th from 11:00-12:00 pm at Homestead Baptist Church.  Services will begin at 12 noon in the church, conducted by Pastor Mitch Thomas.  Guests are encouraged and welcome to wear “Duke Blue”.  Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
