Obituary: Hansel "Hank" Maurice Beam, 84, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on March 4, 2014 at Tucker Hospice House following a period of declining health. He was born December 25, 1929 In Kannapolis, son of the late Dewitt Maurice Beam and Willie Mae Gill. Mr. Beam was a graduate of JW Cannon High School, was a veteran of the US Army serving with the 82nd Airborne division with six years of active duty. He retired from Cannon Mills/Pillowtex as a supervisor after 50 years of service. Hansel was member of Midway United Methodist Church, and a member of Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge #695 AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies of Charlotte and Oasis Temple. Hank loved his family and friends. He and Bobbie were married for 63 years and were known for their dancing. Dancing was a passion of theirs and they made many friends at the Senior Citizen Center weekly dances. He also loved woodworking and his handiwork can be found in all his family's homes and people that worked with him in Cannon Mill. Hank also served as Scout Master for Troop 7 at Midway Methodist Church for many years. He loved the Tarheels; the Braves and was glued to the TV whenever there was a game on. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Allen Beam and one sister, Mazie Crisco. Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Smith Beam of the home, three sons, Marty Beam (Soncerae) of Augusta Ga., Michael Beam (Kathy) and Mark Beam both of Kannapolis and a daughter, Mindy Figueroa also of Kannapolis. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Jesse, Toni, and Amber Beam, Virginia Miller and Randy Powers and one great grandchild, Hansel Paul Miller. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Friday, March 7, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel conducted by Rev. Burt Williams, Rev. William Van Wieren, III., and Rev. Billy Rintz. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the US Army and Masonic graveside rites conducted by Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 12:00 P.M.-1:30 P.M. prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence.
