Harold C. Hyde, Sr.

Obituary: - Harold C. Hyde, Sr., age 85, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at his home after six years of declining health and two days of serious illness. He was born March 17, 1929 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Thomas Cowan Hyde, Sr. and Emma Elizabeth Ervin Hyde. He was the last of ten children. Harold was employed with the former Pillowtex Corp, Plant One, as supervisor of the Plumbing and pipe department and had worked there for many years until his retirement. He was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC. He was also active in earlier years with Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge # 695 and with his wife in the former Marian Winslow Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was fond of riding a motorcycle for about twenty-five years in his life. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Shimkonis and a son, Clifford C. Hyde. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 26, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Kirk Tutterow. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home prior to the service. The family will be at the residence the remainder of the time. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Billie Wellman Hyde; one son, Clay Hyde & his friend and caregiver to the family, Sandra Thacher of Concord, NC; one daughter, Lori H. Gibson & husband, Buddy of Kannapolis, NC; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces & nephews. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 416 E.
