Obituary: Harold David Lear, 72, of Big Elm Assisted Living Center, 1310 Glenn Avenue, Kannapolis, died Tuesday, February 8, 2011 following a period of declining health. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 11, 2011 at Parkwood Baptist Church, Concord, conducted by Rev. Michael Waters and Rev. Darrell Coble. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00-2:00 P.M. prior to final rites. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. At other times the family will be at the residence of a stepson, Jimmy Brewer, 1406 Azalea Avenue, Kannapolis Mr. Lear was born November 28, 1938 in Chesterfield County, SC son of the late J.C. and Mary "Sis" Jordan Lear. He moved to Kannapolis in 1993.He had worked at Burlington Mills in Cheraw, SC for 23years and after moving to Kannapolis he worked for Fieldcrest-Cannon until his retirement due to disability. He was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge # 314 in Ruby, SC. Harold was a creative handyman. He enjoyed working with wood and had the ability to fix anything that was broken. He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Idetta Brewer Lear, who died March 7, 1996; a grandson, Jason Brewer, brother, Perry Lear, and a sister Louise Lear Estence. He is survived by two stepsons: Jimmy ( Brenda) Brewer and Wayne C. (Brenda) Brewer both of Kannapolis, a daughter, Kathy Ann (John) Turvis of Ruby, SC. A special friend and caregiver: Crystal Williams of Kannapolis, one brother, Larry Lear of Lancaster, SC, a sister, Linda (Ronnie) Rollins of Mt. Croghan, SC and a niece Cheryl Melton. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Kelly, Jamie, Shelli and Scotty and five great grandchildren: Brittany, Brian, Tyler, Chase, and Lanie. The family requests that memorials be made to Parkwood Baptist Church, 1069 Central Drive Northwest, Concord, NC 28027 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081. "The family would like to express their appreciation to Crystal Williams, a special friend and caregiver of Mr. Lear for all the love and support she has given to him and the family during his declining health." " Special thanks and appreciation to all the staff at Big Elm Assisted Living Center and Tucker Hospice House for the care shown to Mr. Lear and his family during his time of need."
