Obituary: Harold Verlan Overcash, 82, of 323 Juniper St. died at CMC-NE on Feb. 9, 2011. Mr. Overcash was born on April 19, 1928, the son of the late Nallie Overcash and the late Bertha Hampton Overcash. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Nolan Overcash and a grandchild, Brian Forrest.. He served his country in the Merchant Marines and the 82nd Airborne at the close of WW-2. He retired from Cannon Fieldcrest Mills, had worked in Plant 5 weave room, drove the medical wagon and in later years worked in the supply room. He loved all his grandchildren; attending their ball games (football, baseball and basketball). HE even played Santa at school. He enjoyed being outdoors and going to the beach. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Clara Josephine (Jo) Spears Overcash of the home, 5 children, daughters; June Hatley (Craig) of Kannapolis, Linda Forrest (Tommy) and Wanda Church (Michael) both of Concord. 2 sons; Tony Overcash (Pam) and Roger Overcash both of Kannapolis. Also by grandchildren; Jennifer Quinn Wallace of Georgia, Joshua Chastain, Brent Church, Tyler Church and Blake Forrest all of Concord and Jason Overcash of Harrisburg. 1 great-grandchild; Noah Wallace of GA. As well as a number of nieces and nephews that were all an important part of his life. A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Harold Verlan Overcash will take place at 2p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12. 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Gary Scoggins. The family will receive friends from 1-2 at Whitley's before the service.
