Harold Pethel

Obituary: Harold Dean Pethel, 74, passed from his earthly life into his eternal life on February 24, 2015, at 7:42 a.m. at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015, at Whitley's Funeral Home, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Boulevard in Kannapolis, NC. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Genesis Baptist Church, 9710 Old Concord Road, China Grove, NC. His body will lie in state two hours prior to the service. Rev. Gene Edwards will officiate. Interment will be at West Lawn Memorial Park, 1350 S. Main Street, China Grove, NC. Mr. Pethel was born August 6, 1940, in Cabarrus County, the son of the late Rev. Roy Richard Pethel and the late Nancy Belle Lambert Pethel. Mr. Pethel was educated in the Rowan Salisbury School System. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Rowan Salisbury School System, Atlantic American Properties, and Cannon Mills Company. In church all his life, he was most recently a member of Genesis Baptist Church. Mr. Pethel loved people and loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a very dedicated member who for 55 years enjoyed serving as choir director, Sunday school teacher, a member of several singing groups, soloist, painter, a member of the Men's Brotherhood, a helper and supporter of youth groups, and many other church positions. Mr. Pethel enjoyed going out to eat and spending time helping his friends and family members. His sister, Shirley Barr, and brothers: Charlie, Gene, and Richard Pethel preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife, Teena Heilig Pethel; and daughters: Tina Campbell (Curtis); and Tonya Page (Greg). He is also survived by his grandson, David Tilley (Amanda); his granddaughter, Dana Tilley; and his great-granddaughter, Gracyn Tilley. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth Pethel (Elsie), and sisters Betty Menius (Bill) and Phyllis Wilkes (Joe).
