Harriet (Huffman) Karriker

August 5, 1948 — March 10, 2022

Kannapolis

Harriet Sue Huffman-Karriker passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at her home in Kannapolis after a period of declining health. Born in Cabarrus County, Harriet spent her entire life in the Cabarrus /Rowan community. Nature, gardening, and cooking were some of her favorite pastimes. Her cakes were legendary, and nothing compared to a Harriet meatball! Her love of cooking was only surpassed by the love for her pets; rescue miniature schnauzers and a teacup schnauzer, Ms. Abbycadabby! She would often birdwatch by her certified bird sanctuary in her home. Harriet approached life with Joy!

She loved life! Her greatest loves were the ocean and her Tar Heels. She went to most of the games! She was a life-long learner and tried to install this passion in all the Headstart children she taught in over the 20+ years of  service in the Rowan County School System.  Before retirement, Harriet also worked at VSI Entertainment and China Grove Glass. As a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Harriet served for over 60 years. She also honored her Jewish heritage and traditions of her mother’s family, originally from Durham, NC.

Harriet is preceded in death by her mother and father, Peggy Silver and Carl M. Huffman of Kannapolis. She leaves behind her daughter, Dr. Laura Karriker (Michael Tolbert) of Kannapolis,  her brother, Randy Huffman (Alene), of New York City, NY and her 8 Silver cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM Monday, March 14, 2022 at Carolina Memorial Park (Singing Tower section). Her family will receive friends prior from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at Whitley’s Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, please send all donations to the Cabarrus Humane Society and /or Cabarrus Pet Society.
