Harry Thomas Albright

Obituary: Harry Thomas Albright, age 83, of Harrisburg, formerly of Kannapolis, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at the Oaks at Town Center in Harrisburg, after a period of declining health. Harry was born February 22, 1932 in Rowan Co., a son of the late Jesse Thomas and Charity Marie Dobbins Albright. A life-long area resident, Harry graduated from Rowan Tech, studying electrical engineering. He served in the US Navy on the USS Hector during the Korean Conflict, later he was employed with Cannon Mills as Facilities Manager of Electrical and Mechanical Departments. Harry served as the Scout Master of the Boy Scouts for Troop 47 from 1972 to the mid-90s, receiving the Silver Beaver award for his service in training Scout leaders in the Central NC Council. Harry was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church in Kannapolis and a former member of St. David's Lutheran Church. Harry's greatest joy was his family and he also enjoyed gardening and canning the vegetables raised. He was truly a kind man that was dedicated to helping others and would distribute his abundance of food to friends, family and neighbors. In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Hyde Albright, who died in 2006 and his son, David Albright, who died in 2007, as well as 2 sisters, Jean Albright and Nell Clontz. He is survived by daughter, Donna (Doug) of Huntersville, 4 grandchildren; including Emily, Philip, Douglas and Brandon and 1 great-grandson, Gage and 2 sisters, Eloise McLean of Winston-Salem and Betty James of Kannapolis. His funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 18 at New Hope Lutheran Church with Rev. Roger Storms officiating. Burial will follow at the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery in Salisbury. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior.
