Harry Barker

Obituary: Laurel Springs, N.C.-Mr. Harry Reid Barker of Laurel Springs, N.C. passed away peacefully on February 17, 2016 at Morningside of Concord. Born June 06, 1932 he was the son of the late Garland "G.S." And Addie Barker. He attended Cabarrus County Schools. He joined the Army in 1951. He was a Master Jumper with the C Company 511th Regiment 11th Airborne Division. He had over 532 jumps. He was Honorably Discharged from service. His work history included Grinnell, Cannon Mills and he retired from Duke Power. He was a volunteer Fireman with the Towell City Fire Division while working at Cannon Mills. He was a member of North Kannapolis United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Barker was a member of the Towell City Motorcycle Club. In addition to his parents he was proceeded in death by his brother, Bobby Barker, Charles Barker, Bill Barker and Tommy Barker. Those left to cherish him are his children Mike (Janet) Barker of Concord,N.C., Marcie (Don) Petty of Salisbury, N.C., grandsons Benjamin Reid Barker, John Michael and Matthew Jackson Petty. He is also survived by a sister June (Vonnie) Agner of Salisbury,N.C. He also has several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 1p-2p at Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta, N.C. There will be a Celebration of Life from 2-230p following the visitation. In lieu of flowers the family ask memorials be made to Families First NC-Inc. P.O. Box 459 Rockwell, N.C. 28138 or Hospice of Rowan County 720 Grove St., Salisbury, N.C. 28144. Both are non-profits agencies. Mr. Barker's family wishes to especially thank the Staff at Morningside and Sheri and Stacey from Hospice for all their love and care. Thank you to "Ms. Kay" at Morningside for her fresh peeled orange before Dad went to bed each night. Pop loved the mountains and was considered "The Mayor of Meadowfork Rd." In the Spring when all things bloom Pop will be placed on "his" mountain to once again watch over the grass grow and the creek flow. This being his final wish.
