Harry Lee Haynes

Obituary: Harry Lee Haynes, age 76, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at his home. He was born January 13, 1940 in Rowan County, NC, the son of the late Charlie Daniel Haynes and Mary Katherine Powles Haynes. Harry was employed as a carpenter with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, for thirty years and later worked independently helping many people with carpentry needs for another fifteen years. He was an active member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, China Grove, NC. Harry was a veteran serving two tours with the U.S. Navy VF 101th Air Squadron on the U.S.S. Forrestal CVA-59 during the Vietnam Conflict. He is also fondly remembered for his wine making, his jams and jellies, and his produce that he sold that he would set up at the farmer's markets. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ann Honeycutt Haynes; and a granddaughter, Katherine Victoria Haynes. The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, China Grove, NC officiated by Pastor Bob Young. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy and the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC. Survivors include his children, Denise H. Quigley (Rick) of Daytona Beach, FL and Tina Lavae Haynes of Albemarle, NC; his son, Raymond P. Haynes (Alicemar) of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Michael Calkins, Toni Wingler, Brittney Calkins, and Rebecca Dies; great-grandchildren, Emma Wingler, Jayden Calkins, Gabriel Dies, and Kamilla Calkins; two brothers, Ralph Haynes and Charlie Haynes, both of Kannapolis, NC.
