Harry Le (Gene) Upright

Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Harry Legene (Gene) Upright, age 81, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 8, 2015 at his home after a period of declining health. He was born February 2, 1934 in Iredell County, NC, the son of the late Marvin Eugene Upright and Viola Morris Upright. Gene was a graduate of the former Landis High School after which he served in the U.S. Army. Gene worked for Cannon Mills Company and later retired with Gamewell Manufacturing in Salisbury, NC. His family fondly remembers his love of going out to eat often and watch NASCAR racing and football. He was a fun-loving and very caring person. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Rumple. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Tim McQueen. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Mary Jo Knowles Upright; his son, Kenneth Upright; his daughter, Malia Upright Foil & husband, Michael; his sisters, Colleen Upright and Hazel Boatwright; two nieces and a nephew; and three very special children in his life, Tristen, Tanner, and Trent Adams.
