Hazel (Upright) Boatwright

Hazel Upright Boatwright, 87, of Kannapolis, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2023, at Tucker Hospice House.

She was born April 24, 1936, in Rowan County to the late Marvin Eugene Upright and Daisy Morris Upright.

Hazel was a member of Lutheran Chapel Church, she enjoyed reading, crosswords, country music, watching NASCAR, beach trips and going to her favorite place to eat, What A Burger.  She loved her son’s dog Boots. Hazel was a loving mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her first husband King Junior Fortson as well as her second husband, Barnard Lee Boatwright, son, David Fortson, daughter, Vickie Jo Fortson, sisters, Dot Rumple, Coleen Upright, and brother Gene Upright.

Those left to cherish her memory; daughter; Janice Cruse, daughter-in-law Renee Fortson, granddaughters, Amber Cruse, Danielle Furr (Shane), grandson; Ross Ervin, sister-in-law, Mary Jo Upright, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 8, 2022, at Whitley’s Funeral Home with the Rev. John Tucker and Lucas Safrit, burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in China Grove.

Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Thursday June 8, 2023.
