Hazel Staton Peurifoy

Obituary: Mrs. Hazel M. Staton Peurifoy passed away Saturday Morning, Feb 22, 2014 in King, NC She was born December 15, 1923 in the Brown-Norcott community of Cabarrus County, North Carolina. She was 90 years of age. Mrs. Peurifoy was the eighth of nine children born to the late Dexter Ellison "D.E." Staton and Bertha Moore Staton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters Kathleen, Margaret, Margie and Mildred and brothers Carl, Dexter, Woodrow and Bill. Mrs. Peurifoy was a graduate of Concord High School class of 1941. She was a member of the first graduating class of the Cabarrus Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. During World War II she was a member of the Woman Cadet Nursing Corps. For fifty years Hazel Peurifoy was a Private Duty Registered Nurse offering long term home care. An avid gardener her home was surrounded by flowers. Each summer she planted a vegetable garden and home canned food. She was a gifted crafter enjoying ceramics, making Christmas decorations, knitting, crochet, and needlepoint. Hazel Peurifoy was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church for over forty years where she was a member of the Florence Allred Circle and the United Methodist Women. For over 35 years she and her husband traveled in their camper trailer all over the United States. They were Charter members of the Carolina Cardinals Camping Club and NCHA. Many winters were spent Florida. In 1943 she married Corp. Robert E. "Bobby" Peurifoy, a member of the United States Marine Corps. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage before his passing in 2003. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Patricia Lanier, husband Kenneth, Robert C. Peurifoy, wife Virginia, Jeffrey Peurifoy, wife Mary, two grandchildren, Rebekah Peurifoy and Nathan Peurifoy. We also give our love and Thanks to Esmeralda Calderon for her years of caring for our Mother. A service of celebrations and thanksgiving for the life of Hazel Peurifoy will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Epworth United Methodist Church in Concord officiated by Rev. Dr. Robert Peurifoy and Rev. C. Wayne Allen. Burial will take place in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends from 11 am to 12:00 PM before the service at church. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church, 1030 Burrage Rd NE Concord, NC 28025 Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis is handling arrangements.
