Obituary: Hazel Brooks Rufty Roberts, age 92, of Kannapolis died peacefully in her sleep at home on June 26, 2016. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 5 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Hill and Frank Critz officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Tuesday, prior to the funeral. Hazel was born March 11, 1924 in Madison Co. GA, a daughter of the late J.D.O. Brooks and the late Minnie Love Phillips Brooks. She was a graduate of Comer H. S. and then served as a Wave during World War II. She moved to Kannapolis in 1946 and worked as an Office Manager for Dr. Lance Monroe and then for Dr. Youngblood. Hazel was a member of First Baptist Church since 1948, where she was active in various committees and where ever she was needed. She was a past Worthy Matron of the O.E.S. Hazel enjoyed researching her family's genealogy. Hazel loved flowers and was an avid gardener and enjoy watching the birds at her feeders. She loved to spend time with her nieces and nephews. Hazel will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her first husband, Benny Buck Rufty, her second husband, T. Coles Roberts, her sister, Rachel Kern and her brother, Grover P. Brooks. She is survived by her brother, James S. Brooks (Billie) of Kannapolis; her nieces, Betty Carolyn Price of Kannapolis, Elizabeth Craven of Ehrhardt, SC and Becky Cobert of Concord and her nephews, Frank Kern of PA, James Keith Brooks of Edisto Beach, SC and James David Brooks of Salisbury.
