Obituary: Hazel Beaver Dennis Roland, 94, of Gastonia, formerly of Kannapolis died Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at her home after a period of declining health. Her funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 21 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Grigg officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home on Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the funeral. Hazel was born June 4, 1919 in Rowan Co., the daughter of the late George "Luther" and Ada Barger Beaver. She was a life-long area resident until moving to Gastonia this past October and was a long-time member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church. Hazel had worked for Cannon Mills in Plant #1 #6 weave room as Time Keeper. She retired in 1981 after 45 years of service. Hazel will be remembered for her love of sewing, gardening and caring for others. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert Dennis, her second husband, Dorsey Roland and her brother, Harry "Buck" Beaver. She is survived by her grandson, Eric W. Dennis and wife, Lisa of the family home, her great-granddaughters; Terika Dennis of Cherryville and Hannah and Courtney Dennis of Gastonia and great-great-granddaughter, Maesun Dennis, her son Kenneth Dennis of China Grove, her niece, Sandra B.
