Helen Hendrix Atkinson

Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Helen Hendrix Atkinson, age 94, died Sunday, March 6, 2011 at the Stanly Manor, Albemarle, NC after a period of declining health. She was born January 8, 1917 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Hugh J. Hendrix and Laura Jane Dearmon Hendrix. She was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant. #4 Cloth Room for 38 years until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of Boulevard Chapel, Kannapolis, NC. Her family fondly remembers her love to make biscuits, embroidery, and especially spending quality time with her family. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Guy W. Atkinson, Sr. who died on August 9, 2004. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Pearlie Peterson. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Monday, March 7, 2011 at the funeral home. Survivors include her children, Elaine A. Vincoli of Monroe, NC, Myra A. Clark of Henderson, NC, Bobbie A. Lander of Sarasota, FL, and Guy W. Atkinson, Jr. of New London, NC; one sister, Rachel Cress of Concord, NC; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
