Obituary: Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Barker Berry of Kannapolis, N.C. went home to be with Jesus at the age of 96, on August 18th at 2:02 pm surrounded by her family. Helen was a devoted wife for 64 years to the late Reverend Benjamin Evin Berry who died in July 2006. She delighted in service to her Lord Jesus Christ alongside of her husband. Together they served Salem Baptist in Whitakers, NC; Mill Creek Baptist in Roxboro, NC; Brainard Ave Baptist in Chicago, Il; Eastside Baptist in Reidsville, NC; Westwood Baptist in Roxboro, NC; College Park Baptist in Danville, VA; and Mt. Moriah Baptist in Durham, NC where they retired from active ministry in 1980. Helen loved to sing and play the piano. She served actively in the music ministry of our local churches till she was 93, and also helped with stop hunger now in our community missions. She also taught sunday school for 60 years. Mrs. Berry is survived by sons Benjamin Evin Berry III and wife Debby of Carrboro, NC and William Van Ordan Berry and wife Ruby of White, GA and daughter Cindy B Tuttle and husband Dr. John C. Tuttle of Kannapolis, NC. Nine Grandchildren, Dawn Berry, Kathy Darst, Van Berry and wife Pamela, Jonathan Berry and wife Jessica, Megan Scarboro and husband Zach, Amber, John, Sara, and Jacob Tuttle; eight great-grandchildren Jeffrey Thomas and wife Katelin, Whitney Crabtree and husband Michael, Calvin Darst, Ethan Berry, Jude, Jayce, and Jett Berry and Jaxon Scarboro. She is also survived by a brother Joseph Closs Barker of New Bern, NC and a sister Sarah Barker McCallum of Sanford, NC as well as many nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of Life service at 2 pm on Saturday August 27, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home in the Chapel. Reverand Michael Fongemy will be officiating. The family will recieve friends after the service in the Annex Chapel. There will be a private interment at 11 am at Carolina Memorial Park, Concord, NC. The family headquarters will be at the home 416 Janie Street, Kannapolis, NC.
